Updated 01-29-09

Species Rating Size Baits, Method, & Location
Crappie Fair to Good 8-12 inches

Ice fishing for crappie was fairly successful around the new brushpile off the swimming beach point in the state park. Anglers are encouraged to try this area as well as the brushpile off Campground 3 or the outlet area near the dam. Good numbers of fish will congregate in this area during periods of high releases. Small marabou or tube jigs vertically jigged normally yield the best results for wintertime crappie.

Rainbow Trout Good 10-12 inches

Up to 8 pounds

The second stocking of 850 adult rainbow trout occurred on 12/15/08. Anglers have been doing very well lately catching fish off the dam and along the east bank. Fishing Powerbait seems to be working well, but the best catches have come using a two-hook approach with a combination of corn, mealworms, and Powerbait. Other anglers have filled a limit by slowly dragging a worm along the bottom. Also, don't forget about artificial as well including Panther Martins, roostertails, and Kastmasters.

The third stocking will be in mid-February.

The pond is now ice covered with approximately 4 inches of good ice. Ice fishing should be an option for a couple of  days, but the forecast is for warmer temperatures which may cause the ice to begin thawing soon
.

A trout permit is required for all anglers 16 and older fishing the park pond! Check these regulations for other license requirements and creel limits.

General Comments

The reservoir is now completely ice covered. The Boller Point area has 3.5-4 inches of ice and the state park area is about 3 inches. Unless more ice forms quickly, there will not be much ice fishing opportunity on the reservoir with the forecast for warmer temperatures.

Fishing opportunities still exist in the outlet area below the dam. Keep checking back for further updates on the reservoir condition.

Anglers can now find GPS locations for some of the brush piles located in the reservoir. Simply click on this link Good Fishing Spots and select the individual brush pile. As we enhance these brush piles throughout the year, we'll make a note under each individual location.
